Crystron is an archetype that can often be confusing to many players, generally because they can act on their opponent's turn, and they can do a lot of setup that ends on a seemingly-underwhelming board. Here's a brief overview on what they do---basically a crash course. This article is not intended to show you all the ways to beat them, nor make you a Crystron master, just explain the gist of what they are or what they do. Every duel against them or with them will be different, so learning their mechanics is what is important. The Main Deck Monsters The Main Deck monsters consist of Tuners and non-Tuners. These Tuners are shown below: Each of the Tuners is able to act on their opponent's Main Phase or Battle Phase (but not any other time!), to ultimately Synchro Summon as a Quick Effect. The difference between the Tuners---other than level of course---is where the materials end up and where the materials come from.
Along with these Tuners, here are the non-Tuners to go with them.
All of the Lv2-4 non-Tuners have two effects (one on the field, one in the GY), but they can only use one of these effects per turn (hard one effect per turn, rather than hard once per turn). On the field, the latter 4 non-Tuners (yellow, blue, red, green) attempt to destroy any face-up card on their field, and if they succeed, they summon a Tuner from the Deck, BUT they are locked into Machine Synchros that turn. How they differ is what they do in the GY.
Now, I mentioned that Smiger searches Spells/Traps. They really only have two searchable ones, so I'll stick to those. The (Searchable) Spells/Traps
And those are all of the relevant cards they use in the Main Deck! What about Extra Deck? That's where things get really interesting. The Extra Deck?! The Extra Deck for Crystrons is where every Crystron deck can differ drastically. They don't have any archetype restriction on what monsters they can use, but the monsters they Synchro into using the Quick Effects of the Main Deck Tuners (Quan, Citree, Rion) must be Machines. First, let's go over the actual archetype Extra Deck monsters.
But wait, I said that those were the archetype Extra Deck monsters... there are also other Extra Deck monsters that COULD be used as well. Here are some common Synchro choices, but I won't describe them in TOO much detail---you can just read their effects if you haven't seen them before. Concluding Remarks I think that covers it. They can dance around the board, do backflips, then Synchro on your turn, and they pop cards on their field to bring out the Tuners. But if you skipped down here to get a summary, there's a lot more to them than that! :-) Anyways, I hope you got something out of this! See you next time.
